My younger brother recently got into fish keeping and has a betta in a 5 gallon tank. The betta is building a bubble nest and I am told he really wants to breed. What is the proper tank size to let the betta find a mate to breed? (He owns a male)

I have bred bettas in a 3 gallon. I think a 5 gallon would be fine. Place the female betta in a glass tank beside the tank the male betta is in. Let them observe each other for a few days then introduce the female in.
Thank you!!
when the female is outside the tank what should I be looking for? I’ve never even tried to breed bettas before

Also do I need to add certain plants or keep the tank at a certain temp?
Adding of almond leaves would be beneficial to breeding. Not only does it provide tannins, more coverage, can act as a bubble nest holder as well.

you should look out for the male betta flaring at the female when the tanks are placed side by side. Introduce the female when the flaring dies down. Only introduce the female once the male has finished completing his bubble nest

No no no. A betta builds a nest instinctively. He does not NEED to breed. Breeding bettas is time consuming, extremely hard work, and requires a TON of research before even attempting it. Please, PLEASE join a betta specific breeding group on FB and do allllll the research needed before attempting this.
