From beyond!
Hey what fishes would you guys recommend to house together with a betta?
I have some guppies and a school of porkchop rasboras and i was wondering if i could put a betta in there without having to worry that the betta is going to attack the other fishes

If they are fancy guppies, he will attach them.

I'd also be worried about the rasboras eating his fins. (Not familiar with rasboras really, but I know that a lot of fish like to eat betta fins.)

I have a 10g with a HOB with one male betta, 3females, and 2 albino bristlenose plecos that are about 2in. I also have about 6plants nothing to extravagant but they all get along pretty well. I'm not trying to breed but I just love my bettas :] I could have gotten lucky tho..

For the most part bettas are aggressive. Out of all the bettas I've had only one got along in a community tank. I've even tried algae eaters with them but it didn't work.

had a buddy who had a betta who didn't mind guppies... so we tried putting a few in with my betta... he killed every one of them. apparently he wasn't very social.

My betta lived happily with a group of 5 Pygmy Corys. At first I was totally against them as I thought they were boring and not that cute, but after having a group of them together I enjoy them for small fish. I think it really depends on your specific Betta. Some are a little more docile then others, while some will kill anything that looks like it's remotely moving. What size tank do you have?

100% think it depends on the betta, i have had plenty through the years, i even had two that shared a tank and never fought once. (true story!) If you want a friendly male, try to get one that is "lazy" I have found through my hardly scientific thoughts that if you pick a lazy(er) betta, than usually they end up being more friendly. I had mine with "jumbo" neon tetras, plecos, and cories.

Also, petco's "king betta" fish are great, i always have 1 in my tanks, not sure if its actually a betta, but it acts like 1, and does well with current.

I've had really good luck mixing betas with things. I have one with two 3-4" comets and I'm pretty sure the beta thinks he's a gold fish. I have another one with angels and corries he's a little more reserved but everyone gets along.
Nice thing about betas is if it doesn't work it is quite easy, cheap and quick to make them their own home.

I saw a great looking planted tank today at the LFS probably 55 gallon, tons of rainbow fish, a few gouramis, some danios and what not, and a really nice looking male beta - i dont know much about compatibility of betas but because it was one of the smaller fish in the tank all seemed well
