Hi, I have a hypothetical question. Could anyone tell me if a male betta unimaculata meets a male betta splendens, would they fight to the death or ignore each other? In aquarium conditions.thanks.

I can’t speak for unimaculata temperament, but splendens has been selectively bred to get the most aggressive males possible. They will go after anything that slightly resembles a threat. I see no reason why the splendens wouldn’t try to kill the other betta.
Definitely don’t try this mix.

Thank you for the professional answer.

I did an experiment. Istead of betta unimaculata I put a female crescent betta with a male spledens betta. And so far they are acting normally.Adding a female betta of a different species instead of a male is probably safer.

I will follow up on the compatibility of other wild bettas with a male betta spledens. I bought a male and female of betta picta. And so far they live peacefully together in one aquarium, with a male betta spledens and a female betta splendens. No fights or agressive habits.
