Kind of offtopic for monsterfishkeepers, but I'm sure a lot of you also have or breed bettas.
What sort of water parameters should I keep mine in? I'm just using straight RO right now.

i always just used tap with mine.
ph 8.0

And I did a 20-30% water change everyday. Sadly this was in a 1g betta tank from the pet store.

I guess the low ph of ro would be good if the fish can do that. That low ph will sure help the ammonia situation.

Not planning on having an "ammonia situation." The current tank is using liberal water lettuce and I have a 3 gallon marineland eclipse on the way.

great

I have not owned one in 15yrs or so. And back then it was unheard of to put them in a tank with actual filtration. lol

like I said pretty sad, but when you trust your lfs you are sure to have troubles.

usually i say the amount of minerals in water doesnt matter however i have noticed my livestock invert especially seem to look a little worse in high pressure purified water, i was using RO/DI water. personally unless your water horrific i would just use dechlorinator like prime, or perhaps do a mixture of treated tap with RO.

water should be around 78 degrees
ph 6-8

My water has silicates like nuts and grows crazy diatoms, plus 10ppm nitrates and pH 7.9-8.1.

I keep a betta in a 3G at work, I use the water from the water cooler . . . I do at least add some water conditioner, but I keep it soft and neutral . . .

I have my betta in a 10 gallon with a Cascade 80 filter and a petco heater at ~77/78F. He has 2 mollies, 2 platies, and 4 ghost shrimp as tank mates, plus live plants.

I have municipal water and it has chlorine(or some other chemical) so I run all the water that goes in his tank through our little britta water filter. I usually do a 20-40% wc on the weekend. It can take a while ;). I put in aquarium salt and Stability.

I wouldn't trust the brita to remove chlorine. They say they work on up to 40 gallons or something like that.
