Betta water params?

Most betta sites seems to be written by amateur fishkeepers, I thought I'd ask some more experienced hobbyists.Skyeler;3394906; said:
Bettas come from soft, acidic pools. I add a little peat moss to my water aging containers to get the pH to 6.4 and low hardness. Soft water keeps their fins nice and healthy, especially for crowntails.
