Betta with my oddballs?

I've actually raised two convict from 3-5 week old fry to 3/4" & 1.5" in that 55 with the current stock without issue...leads me to believe I have a pretty well behaved group of fish. But you never can tell.

yes but con babies are notorious, for getting away, hiding and surviving..so no surprise there , that is why some people don't use them as feeders, bettas on the other hand are no where near as fast, or aggressive...i would go with the 20 and give him a dream home ^_^

I know a lot of people get upset with this but I have a friend that has a betta in a 1 gallon pot with some bamboo. It has turned into the biggest and most vibrant colored betta I've ever seen. Also, I believe that bettas are really tough fish because alot of people keep them in small bowls and they seem to be just fine. Every other week he washes out the pot, add conditioner and water and that's it. I wouldn't do it because I think they are kind of boring but I just wanted to say what I know about bettas. Please don't flame, The Doctor.

I would also go with the 20 & give him a dream home...if I could. I would LOVE to take that tank (or get a 10) and go rimless, plant the hell out of it, make it real classy with over-filtration crystal clear water etc etc with a nice vibrant betta & a few other small things. But I don't have the room for it...I have everything BUT the room

Like I said, I really don't know much about bettas but they don't seem to be very quick and with their long fins, I see alot of fish would want to nip at them, The Doctor
