what i dont understand is why do betta get SUCH A BAD REP. they are peaceful fish they will get along with any peaceful fish.(expect there own kind) we have ours with minnow guppies ghost shrimp small clown knife! they dont like other betta.

Most Bettas that they sell in the fish stores today (ie: fancy tail) are not even Betta aggressive anymore. They breed them for looks and not fighting, in result true fighting Bettas became their own strain and even look different.

How do you think a betta would do in a 55 with:

Zebra Danios
Clown Loaches
Tiger Barbs
Glass Catfish
Red-Tailed Sharks
Honey Dwarf Gouramis
Maybe some Paradise Fish


I'm wanting to do a blackwater biotope and want to add a betta. Just not sure with the gouramis. I'm hoping that maybe there will be enough other fish to distract them from nipping the betta's fins. What do you guys think?

i would be more worried about the quick tiger barbs shredding the rather slow moving betta.

Bettas do better with other slower moving fish that do not like to nip fins. Tiger barbs and a Betta seem like a really really bad idea. I would be worried about the Paradise fish too. Bettas and Paradise fish are kinda closely related, but you never know until you try. You may get a pretty sweet hybrid!
