:iagree:

so what do you think. I have a 29 with lots of zebra danios, tetras, and dojo loaches. Think a male will be fine? And what is your favorite type of betta?

I agree 100% they are deep sleepers. My Bubbles sleeps through the lights coming on at times LOL

They do get nipped bad too that I agree with. I was lucky. My white, headlight tetra leave him alone. I only have one serpae tetra right now. I know when I had 6 serpae they are so nippy but the one I have left is good with the betta. I dont think the betta would fair so well with more serpae in there. It really is hit or miss. The betta gets the white tetra away from him if they get to close. The headlight tetra ignore the betta all together.

I had a single male beta in a 55 gallon community, before, for a few years. You would be supprised how active they become when given the space.

I have a male and a female Betta in a heavily planted 29G tank along with about 12 ghost shrimp. They completely ignore the ghost shrimp. The male occasionally flares up at the female, but they both completely ignore the shrimp. I had 3 guppies in there with them, that lasted a few hours before my Betta turned into Pac-Man and chomped em all down.

In the wild, 2 males will always fight over territory. It's hard-wired into their brains, they can't help it. But in the wild it rarely results in death, because the loser will always leave. Since that can't happen in a tank, Betta fights in captivity almost always result in death.
