BETTER SHOW TANK ARMATUS VS ATF

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have kept a school of dorado. They fought non stop, more than any fish I have ever owned, and I have owned a lot of fish. I have a 13" Goliath ATF in a 300 right now. IN my opinion the tank is already much too small for him. He is very skittish and bangs himself quite often. Soon my 300 will be dedicated to a solo 18-20" armatus. Hope my input helps.

So what about one dorado in a 300gal for life and nothing else but a powerful powerhead

That would grow to be quite a monster show fish.

I know but people are saying he will outgrow that so I'm debating that now I don't want armatus because they drop dead sometimes and no one can explain it, so i'm thinking about what DB said and do some mini monsters( african pikes , bichirs, cudas, tats etc...).

A group of tats would be major but they are harder to come by than the Armatus right now.I had a trio of them but the big one killed one of the others and now I'm down to two.

I know all the extra cool stuff is absent from list's at the moment

ATF is out of the question if you cant upgrade. My 14-15" VATF just bashed the top of his head on Saturday. He has a big gash from snout to the top of his eyes... about 2-2.5" long and was leaking blood drops.... I was real scared too He has never hurt himself or come close to this in the whole time ive kept him... they are very fast and sooner or later will end up bashing themselfs hard (might even die from it).

With the options given (Title) I vote for Armatus as I had a 16.5" in my 300 (8'X30"X24" high) and I dont ever remember him hurting himself.

JMO Pros n Cons

ATF...
PRO-display killer teeth at all times and have great colors (atleast Vittatus do)
More of a community fish WHEN COMPARED to Armatus
Grow slow so you can enjoy them longer
Are great swimmers (not non stop like Dorados but fair to say mine is non stop... cruising the tank or flooring the gas all the time)

CON- can be very skittish and will/can hurt them self very bad
due to skittish, you need a bigger tank for them when they hit around 13-15" depending on character

ARMATUS...
Pro... are aware of their surroundings so they dont crash (as much atleast incase someone does have a clumsy Armatus)
Have probly the best set of teeth in freshwater fish
Feeding is the B E S T ! ! ! ! (even market shrimp Lol)

CON... very aggressive and will most likely kill or hurt tankmates (I say no tankmates unless a huge tank)
grow super fast so most have to sell due to tank not big enough (for me its a CON)
fragile and dont ship well

Im sure there is more but these are what came to mind and I dont want to think about this all day Lol

G/L but you cant go wrong with either one (tank size is prob the biggest Q)

Oh yeah... so with a 300gl being the biggest you stated, I vote for
ARMATUS
No limit tank, A T F all day ;)

Armatus is a real nice fish , but don't they usually croke for no reason, because alot of threads start out my armatus has died

That's scombs. Armatus are actually pretty hardy.
