Excellant job wf.They do look very healthy.I have a pair of BGGG JDs that have 2 times already.First time I removed fry from parents and lost all of them.Second trime, which was a month ago, left fry with parents for 3 weeks.Out of 200 fry I have about 25 left.So frustrating.Am feeding them decapsulated brine shrimp.Just checked on the pair, guess what ? They laid eggs again.Think this time I will not remove fry from parents at all. What did you do?And what did you feed your fry?

I remove the Male EBJD, but leave the mother for at least one month. My pair "fights" before and after spawning.. The female is bigger than the male in my pair so I dont want my $4 female dempsey killing my $25 EBJD... I feed them SP Brine Shrimp, blood worms, beefheart (all frozen), flakes, and discus pellets

What is SP brine shrimp. And you feed the fry that become free swimming frozen foods and they survived just fine?Or do the parents help with the feeding?Maybe I'll take my male out too.

Spirulina enriched brine shrimp. can be bought at any LFS... It helps their health and color... For the first 2 weeks or so they get Hikari First Bites and whatever mom chews up and spits at them (same as for mentioned at begining of thread)... Most of the time the frozen foods go into a plastic cup with some water from the tank to defrost a little.. After a couple weeks they eat just fine without the help of the parents..
Also important are frequent water changes. They eat at least 4 times a day and change the water once daily
My male and female tend to fight before and after spawning given enough time. Once the eggs are fertile their is no reason to risk confrontation or worse. I have heard of mated pairs killing one another

One more thing.Did you have to feed the new fry any live baby brine shrimp? And if not I guess it's because the parents fed the fry?I see so many times people saying the fry will not survive without live bbs.I never used it.

I havent used baby brine shrimp... From what I have read and heard they are an excellent source of food for the fry. But my LFS doesnt stock them and I didnt want to special order it.

Good to hear you are raising your fry without Live BBS.It's a lot of work.Did you loose any fry at all? Think I will try that SP brine shrimp when my fry become free swimming.I will leave the male with them for a week or two, then remove him and leave the female to raise the fry.
