Definitely sponge your filter or cover the intake with something like panty hose.
I believe that the babies will eat crushed flake once they are free swimming, but until then they will be sustained by their egg sacks.

Dont feed em until they become free swimming. Then you can use crushed flake. Mix it with tank water first and then use a turkey baster to "shoot" the liquid to the fry. Best part of fish keeping IMO.

You can crush cichlid pellets to a fine powder, and that would work as well.
