BGK and african brown knife

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
CKs, BGKs, and ABK, are all commonly available Knives. All are from different parts of the earth. Besides water parameters being different (but I don't think Knives are picky about this), temperment is the main issue.

While I have read CKs are aggressive and territorial, they have been pretty mellow in my experience. In fact, a lot of people have a pair or a group of them. They grow the biggest out of the commonly available, growing 30+"

BGK seems to be the most territorial. I know some people here who has had success with a couple of these together, I think these are the best ones to have for a single Knife fish. They seem to average 18" but has been known to reach 24"

ABK are the best suited for aquarium life. They don't get big and they have been found in shoals in the wild. So they can probably be kept together in aquariums and are the best for multi-knives tank. And these guys average 8" but has been known to reach 12"

I had a 11" BGK in an 8ft tank with 5 smaller 4-6" bgk's. I introduced a 4" AKF and he pestered all the small knives. He/she tried it with the large one but backed off as it was frightened of Bumripple 11" bgk :D
I eventually caught the AKF and moved to an0ther tank with cichlids and it mellowed down.
Depends on tank size and companions at the end of the day.
