Hi everyone first post here, been amazed by all the cool 1000+ gallon tanks these last week or so, amazing!!!

so anyway i'm posting here because i've had my aquarium stocked for about a week and a bit now and unfortunately last night i got home at midnight to find one of my 2 black ghost knifes in my 4ft tank had gone stiff and was being jetted around the tank slowly :( the poor lil bugger. im not sure if he died of stress from the bigger ghost knife or more concerning to me if he died from not eating. he didnt seem to be underweight but i guess its really hard to tell when you've only had them a week. i was just wondering if there was any type of vegetable i could chuck in my tank that they would feed on and if so what should i do to it befor chucking it in the tank to make sure i dont get any baddys in? is there any type of food that only they will eat? at the moment he seems to spend alot of time around the suction caps where there seems to be a white bacteria growth, could he be feeding on this?

Mine wil eat almost anything but prefers to eat after lights out or at least subdued lighting.

so i should try to feed all my fish in darkness?

Not necessarily. What are your other fish?

2 blue and 2 red gouramies and 2 silver dollars. All i really need to know if if he's not feeding during feeding time if hes hanging round the suction caps and in his log will he still be feeding? dont want to loose him to

Feed regularly a little before lights out and then put in food for the knife just after lights out.

well maybe 1 cube of bloodworm at lunch and one befor going to bed, theyr only small cubes as it is im wondering whether or not to use 2 of them because my cousins blood worm cubes seem to be twice the size, so 1 at lunch and one at dinner probably works

BGK are very fragile types in the beginning...once he gets comfortable with the tank he will do okay, and you are right to worry about his eating..i think this is number one reason so many are lost young...some refuse to leave their house and will starve..so if u can try to put the cube right in his house.. at least for the beginning until he eats and relaxes..once he is older you can introduce him to all kinds of foods..but the veggies will not work with him.. he wants protein ... so good luck.. and do as dragonfish says ..feed and lower or turn off lights and he will eat better and sooner... he will get brave later but for now he is a baby..
