My 6" BGK eats soaked 3mm Hikari pellets & 1mm NLS (unsoaked). Has tried 3mm NLS but it's hard & did not take to it Of course frozen blood worms & earth worms are the favorites 
I will try sushi or shrimp & scallops soon as I buy some for my self LOL
Do not feed food originated from warm blooded animals! Animal invisible fat in the tissue is bad for fish
Anyhow no BGK would normaly eat a COW or a PIG in the wild

my BGK eats hikari floating cichlid gold and whatever else i drop in the tank. and yes, he comes up to eat when i feed the other fish. he grabs a few pellets and then dives back in his log.
I started a 30 gallon tub worm farm. With like 4 dozen red wigglers. Now theyre are hundreds. It's indoors as well. I can tell you how to make it and take pics if you want. Other than that, I feed frozen bloodworms. No dry food. But you could get frozen shrimp and scallops from your lgs as well.
mine eats anything i put in the tank. frozen BW and mysis, thawed shrimp, silversides and even sinking pellets. mine started out with blood worms tho.
My BGK eats frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp every other day and I noticed he's finally eating the pellets at the top of the tank too! Whew! lol
