I'm toying with the idea fo getting my BGK a tankmate. Will the lungfish and BGK get along well? Tank size abt 55G. Thanks!

Welcome to MFK!!!

I take it you mean a SAL (Lepidosiren paradoxa). SALs are the best candidates for a community tank, as far as LFs go. But, with any predator mixing, there's always a risk. If a LF ever decides to sample a tankmate, the chances of survival are very slim.

BTW, I hope you realize a 55 isn't going to last long for these fish. BGKs usually top out at a foot in aquaria but, can reach 19". SALs are tank busters reaching the 4ft mark.

Well said...

Thanks, all.

After much serious consideration, I decided not to get the said lungfish afterall. The habitat and water conditions somehow contrasted with that of BGK and it can grow very large thus the future housing issue.

I like the look of the Aussie lungfish too although it's banned from commercial sales. Such a regal looking fish!

It's probably just as well you decided against the AUL. They get much larger than the other species of LF. BTW, there is one licensed breeding farm for aussies that is permitted to sell commercially. About a dozen members have AULs from that farm. Check out ceratodus.com
