BGk will not eat

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Best Wishes - I think the Garlic Guard will really help.

Mine likes bloodworms ok, but it *loves* frozen brine shrimp.

Also, I think when you get out of QT it will eat more. BGK notice the activity of the other fish feeding and it helps them determine where the food is and gets them all excited about eating. They can hardly see anything, but they have a pretty good sense of smell - that's why the garlic helps.

He will come around. One thing BGK are known for is their appetite.

For the first month my BGK hid in a castle ornarment in the tank. The only way that I could tell that he was there was when I would catch a glimpse of the white on his tail. He was only 3 inchs long then.

To feed him I would put some frozen blood worms inside one of the castle windows. It would defrost and he would go and clean it up.

Now I feed twice a day and if I am late I see a much bigger (and still growing rapidly) BGK swimming back and forth at the front of the tank - waiting impatiently. He is somewhere around 10 inches now - maybe more.

Be patient. Once he feels safe he will visit with you.
Once he realizes you coming to the tank means food... you will not have to look for him.

ok, so i'm going to be patient with him - i usually start to get annoyed when i wake up in the morning and using a flaslight i can see bloodworms on the sand but then when he pokes his head out i forget all about it lol.im just soaking the bloodworms (in garlic), will let you guys know how it goes tomorrow morning.

Just a suggestion. If the garlic trick works I would try feeding him other types of food soaked in garlic so that he is eating a variety of food. But I have to say that I would be surprised if he/she does not pick up as my BGK is a pig when it comes to feeding time to the point where I have to hand feed my discus to make sure they are getting enough to eat. Good Luck and let us know how is goes.

Mine goes nuts for chunks of fish and shrimp. Just drop it in right before lights out and they chow down.

he ate the bloodworms!!! well most of it anyway! I put a whole cube in there, there were at least 30 bloodworms and this morning I only found about five bloodworms! I found it odd that his head wasn't poking out of his cave, but he's probably sleeping it off. thankgod, was getting worried about him because he's so small.

Variety is the spice of life,or so they say....try some partially cooked peas, chuck them in a cup with some water and microwave them :)
