BGK's

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Me again LOL< I've been looking at the tank, and how to decorate for a BGK, and I had the best idea. I saw this done in a Betta tank once, though this would obviously be a larger scale.

The guy decorated the tank to make it look polluted with rubbish etc in it, sorta a comment on society style tank.

Theres plenty of stuff I could use to do this, that would double as hidey holes for a BGK, ie the big 2l coke bottles, cut of the narrow end, and add silicone to the edges to smooth em, or beer glasses, with the logos on em. Ummm need to work out some more stuff, but coke bottles are completely safe if the labels removed and the sticky stuff is removed with turps.

Then add Java moss all around it, some more natural looking fake decorations and some plastic plants that look mildly realistic.

Would that work?

Or I could just do a more boring looking tank with a few caves on the bottom...

I would say Yes, but i guess some people probably would say no...
It takes forever for them to grow :) and like you say, for 2-3 years i dont think it will be a problem but for a full grown 20" BGK its maybe a bit small.

I dont think they are jumpers, at least mine never tries anything, just cruises the bottom.
They hide alot when the lights are on so yours would probably be pretty active in the dark.

Yes it will be a problem, BGK's will need atleast 100 galleons to themselves. They might do well in their till about 8" tops, but thats pushing it, then they will have to go in a 100 gal + tank.

Just go with the 'normal' style tanks, because BGK's are Nocturnal they will need dark areas in the tank to hideout during the day. Personally I have some driftwood and heaps of plants in there.
