are bichirs (mainly the senegal) aggresive? I ask because my 3 inch bichir has claimed the life of 3 fish. First my 2 inch clown was killed and eaten, then he killed 2 goldfish. does anyone eles have a highly aggresive bichir?

generally bichirs are not aggressive. But they are predatory. sounds like yours is just being predatory.

I agree with Inf, they don't tend to show aggression in the way cichlids do, but instead will prey on anything they feel they can eat.

It cannot be emphasized enough that territoriality/behaviour/etc.. of bichirs is individualistic, although some species seem to have more of an inclination such as ornates.

Here's a video of my ornates showing territorial behavior:
Polypterus ornatipinnnis aggression

I had a lap that was so nasty he had to be kept by himself. But as already stated they are basicly non agressive predators.I'm sorry for your loss-Anne

neither of mine are bad, but the ornate did eat a smaller sen. the lap lies under the same piece of wood with the BGK and the ornate goes wherever, but mostly in the corner away from the other fish (and me, lol).

My senegal had a bad attitude for quite a while. He would attack anyone trying to eat the food, and just generally bully everyone else. After adding plants and a bunch of wood, he seems to have calmed down.

bichirs are just very predatory.
ive seen my bichirs stalk fish too large to eat and grab them by the tail.
ive also seen them eat fairly large fish.
