Bichir and ... Adult Swordtails? Does it work?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
leopard ctenopomas for sure^^^ also elephant nose should be fine. my lfs has senegals in with elephant noses and clown loaches. you could try some SD's (silver dollars) they would be fine and would school around the tank.

Don't like the first two and I can already see the carnage with the angelfish O_o Thanks for the suggestions.

I like the elephant nose fish but it's not a top-dweller, right? Same with the loach... I also don't have sand in the tank, gravel only. Silver dollars don't really do it for me XD

Thanks for the suggestions!

Long trailing fins? Easy pickings >> I put a spiky-finned butterfly in there and he was torn up within the hour. (As was I. T-T) I couldn't possibly see flowy-flowery little angelfish in with polys to be honest. I don't know much, but I just don't have a good feeling on that note. >>

I vote for rainbowfish + gouramis if you don't want to do angelfish or other cichlids. Large tiger barbs would be okay too.

I'd be most worried about the bichir, as I have kept ropefish with tetras, angelfish, parrots, geos, gouramis, axolotls, rainbowfish, loaches, corys, platys, plecos, etc...

if you can try raiamas, or trout-barbs. they're colourful, active, predatory cyprinids with some wickid colour and they often grow about 8 inches long for smaller species

No, they weren't intended as feeders, that's why I'm asking if they would be okay (safe).

I don't know which kind of rainbow fish you're referring to, rainbow whats? And what does SD stand for please?

Thanks for your reply,

Cat

Sorry for the late reply, I haven't been online much lately.

"Rainbow" refers mainly to species of the Melanotaenia genus. Species like M. herbertaxelrodi and M. trifasciata would grow large enough to avoid becoming food, since they have much larger bodies than most other fish of similar sizes. And SD = silver dollar.
