Bichir Back Bent

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I bought and grew out 8 cb ornates a few years ago and one day I noticed the spine on 2 of them had kinks. It just happened out of the blue, I determined that it was from bad breeding. I'm not sure in your case, but I don't think there's anything that you can do about that.

Back if broken. They won't die directly because of it, but life will be a lot more difficult. Just make sure you keep competition for food to a minimum and ease up on the flow. Digestion and coming up for air are the most difficult for them in this state.

Ok thanks I he eats a lot and swims around easily I'm just worried because he isn't full size yet

Please clarify, did you get it like this, did it happen suddenly or gradually? As suggested could be a genetic deformity

I honestly am not sure its been like that for awhile it wasn't until I got another one that I noticed it. I know he didn't have it in till after I changed tanks and he jumped out once so I'm thinking that's when it happened

There are a fair amount of disease that cause spine deformities but in this case it does sound like a physical injury. Do you have any other large cichlids he is being housed with?
