How well do Bichirs get along with Catfish?

I have a friend who may be giving me his Ornate in the future or one of his other Bichirs and I would plan to put it in my 40 gallon breeder until it gets bigger.

I have Severums in the 40 but I'm giving them away soon. After that, all that'll be left in the tank will be a 5" Hoplo Catfish, x2 3" Mystus Catfish, a 3-4" Asian Bumblebee Catfish and a 2.5" Flat Bullhead.

There are plenty of hiding spots in the tank with fake plants all along the surface for cover.

The Ornate Bichir is approaching 4" and growing.

ive wondering the same thing. i want to put an ornate in with my RTC

I'm sure i wouldn't risk it

Would you risk it with smalle Catfish around the 4-6" range? At least until the Bichir outgrew the Catfish.

One problem I had with smaller bichirs and catfish was the bichirs mistaking the catfishes whiskers for worms and biting them off...fossilis cats look weird without whiskers :(

that would suck. ill have to wait untill he out grows the 110

What species of mystus catfish?

You could do it but the ornate will out grow you cats quick the main threat is the bull head tey grow fast but might not grow fast enough if they ornate tries to eat it theres a possabiliy that the bull head will get stuck in ts throat and choak it

So if you have a tank to move the small cats to or another tank for the ornate you would be fine

Other then the size issues the only other problem would be the ornate may have a little trouble getting food

If your filtration is good and you do large water changes i would just put him in your 75 the tankmates you list in your sig would be no porblem

I'm not sure about the Mystus exactly, they're striped horizontally, silver and black.

Hmm, that does sound kind of risky. I've already had that happen to a Ropefish and the poor thing died. =\ Alright, I'll probably just put it in the 75 then, I'm planning on giving away some of the fish in there anyway.
