Bichir desperately needs help

I remember seeing someone way way back on MFK that had a medium sized congicus in the same condition as your Senegal. The fish returned to full health and eventually hit 30" few years later. Just keep the water clean and stress low. They are hardy fish.

Like I said I can’t remember what it was and the .5 was just my best guess as to what it was. It could have been higher.

If this was not an ammonia burn then what do you think it is? Could it have been caused by tank mates? The tankmates in the 1st 75 was
4 sun catfish
3 Raphael catfish
1 spiny monster pleco
1 green severum
1 fire mouth cichlid
1 hoplo catfish
And 1 african knifefish

POLYPTERUS CONGICUS

Those may remember that I had a problem w/my old 600 sometime ago. Well in the transition of moving fish's around I had my Endli's in a tub. The PH crashed and my Congicus suffered the worst from PH burn. In addition his tail fin just rotted away from an bacteria outbreak. With clean water...

He had a pH crash. So his congicus was suffering ph burn. I couldn't find the actual thread because I remember there were more photos and it looked worse.

Speaking of ph when I tested 75#2 today I got a reading of 8.8 twice in a row until the third time and after that which read the normal 7.6

Also I have never experienced a drop in ph so I would not expect the addition of a new fish to cause a drop in ph however something could have happened to cause it I suppose perhaps?

Maybe test was off, waste builds up in the tank then the ph can drop, or u added a pump. I would recheck to make sure it’s consistent.

It wouldn’t hurt to check your kh. If your kh is low you may have had a ph crash. You can also check your ph 3x a day to see how much it swings. Morning, noon, night.
Just to rule that out as a problem.

I’m surprised I didn’t think of that, I still have a 4’ x 2’ sheet of egg crate for a project that’s been post poned.

It would really suck to lose a turkana sen. It'll heal quite fast compared to most other fish. If possible don't put it with any more plecos, even if they don't usually attack bichirs
