Hi,

I ordered 2 more bichirs. One is a 4.5" ornate and the other a 2.5" albino senegal. Should I keep the smaller guy in a different tank until he gets bigger or can I safely put him with the bigger ornate(biggest in the tank so far)?

Thank you.

Steve

It won't take the Sen long to catch up, so I would keep them apart for a little.

Okay, I will.

Thank you for the fast reply! Much appreciated.

Do you think in a month or two he'd be ready to join the rest of them, if I feed him especially well(more than the others)?

Steve

sens grow slow, it could take longer then you think. ornates grow faster then sens also. jus something to keep in mind

Separate as in, never put them together at all? If that's the case, then I guess I would be better off only keeping either one of them, and then getting more of the same specie or of similar sized different species.

What do you think?

Steve

i have an 8" ornate with 2 3" senegals, 2 8" senegals, and 2 6"-7" albino senegals. they will be fine. keep them well fed. i have kept large ornates with many small fish.

Thank you all. Since my smaller fish also happens to be the one that cost me $7 as opposed to $50 for the ornate, I think I will attempt to keep them together9I would not do it if it ws the other way around). I will keep an eye on them and separate them if I see any suspicious behaviour. They are going to be in a 150g. I have 4 polys ordered right now, plus the one I already have. Can't wait to get them.

Once they all get at least 4-5", I will be adding a pair of gars to this tank. Hopefully they will grow slow enough that I can keep them in my 150 for at least a year or two.

Steve :)

depending on the foot print you can more than likely house all of the bichirs in the 150 for life. the gars on the other hand...
