Bichir eaten by bichir??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
my senegal grew pretty fast they will be fine for know but the ornate will out grow the sen eventually so be prepared to seperate them

I realize that I will have to trade the gars in once they get too big. Right now, a 150 is the biggest tank that will physically fit down my staircase. And I had to remove the last two steps to make it fit down! lol

I think I'll be able to keep the gars for a year and a half if I get them at 5-6". From what I've been told/read, they grow pretty fast to 12", then their growth slows down.

I'll have to see for myself I guess. Different people have had different experiences.

Thank you!!

I am a bit confused :S

Can the smaller poly species be housed with the medium and larger polys? I'm talking about fish at adult size right now. For example, a 12" senegal with a 24"+ endlisheri? If that's not possible, can that same senegal be housed with a medium size poly such as an ornate that is 18"? OR should all pplys be keps with other species that have very similar max sizes?

If anyone can answer these questions for me, I'll be verrrry happy! :)

Thank you thank you thank you! lol

you can keep pretty much all polys together full grown. there are a few exceptions though.

Personally, I would not keep small bichirs with large bichirs. There's always going to be a risk putting odd sized bichirs together. They are predatory fish afterall and you're just playing russian roulette when there's a big size difference. Also I would consider ornates and weeksiis as large bichirs. You may think they are medium size because of their length but they can double or triple in girth compared to the smaller species.
