I've been thinking about either a breeding pair of fish or a breeding community of fathead or mountain minnows. what would be recommended? tips and advice are always appreciated:)

Yeah stay away from feeders due to the fact that fish stores don't take care of feeders and could have diseases or parasites. Plus it can be very expensive.

You can keep any type just don't feed them feeders. If you really really want to feed them feeders I would set up a QT tank, cause again most fish stores that I know of don't take care of feeders

If you want to breed fish for feeders. Try breeding midas cichlids as they breed fast and grow fast to become bite size. You can get about 500 fry every 2-3 weeks. In a month or two they should be good for feeding. While you grow out some, the parents already spawn new ones. The only problem is, you will do a lot of water changes on the growing out tank as you gonna powerfeed them to grow fast. Also you need get rid of the pheromones that the fish produce in the water.

Don't got the room for even 1. or a seperate tank for that matter. i need something that can live with the bichirs at the same time

They would get eaten even before they have the chance to breed

personally with my bichir it strictly eats bee fheart. that's not exactly what i intended but that is the only thing he will eat. and so far so good. he seems to love it and nothing wrong with that. have you tried that?
