I was wondering, whats the best time of the day to feed my Bichir.

I usually feed my ABF in the morning, and the KF at night, and Im not sure I've seen the Bichir eat at either times.

are they nocturnal?

They are generally nocturnal predators, although mine (6" & 4") eat at 'normal' (7am & 8-10pm) times with the lights on or off.

They'll eat, just keep whatever feeding routine works for you.

Thanks! I guess I have another question, maybe you can help me ID which species of Bichir mine is, and how much do you think he will grow.

Here's a pic:

Its hard to tell from that picture...if you could snap one thats got a little more of the body so you can see coloration & any pattern he's got that would help.

If I had to guess though I'd say senegal. I can't see any pattern from that angle...looks like a sen to me.

definitely looks like a senegal, if it has any kind of pattern on the sides i guess it could be a palmas (hard to tell from picture though) - if senegal which i think it is it will grow to be anywhere from 8-12", very rarely they exceed 12" but ive never seen one anywhere close to that big - as far as feeding schedule i feed them when i get the chance, some days they eat around 5 or 6 some days they eat around 1 or 2, really depends on my schedule not theirs - when i first got mine they didn't eat much but now they are ravenous and greet me at the top of the tank to beg for food whenever i walk in to the room :P

I have 3 Senegals, and mine are always making sure I feed them. They come to the front of the glass and look at me right in the face like "Moooooom Feed us!"

They eat anytime there is food available. haha. I feed them massivore.
