Live feeder fish can carry parasites and bacteria. Pellets and frozen food is the usually the best. Frozen silversides, lancefish, and krill are good for polys, also earthworms from somewhere like Petco are good treats for them, plus ghostshrimp.
I agree

Avoid goldfish period, they contain thiaminase, an enzyme that breaks down thiamin, a B vitamin. Prolonged use will shorten your fish's life. If you feel you have to use feeders, stick to tropicals and raise them yourself. One reason they're so poor in nutrition is that commercial feeders are fed the cheapest food available.

Get your initial stock, treat them for parasites, internal and external, then feed them a high quality food. Watch and raise them like your regular fishies and there go three concerns; nutrition, parasites and disease.

Worms and gut loaded crickets are still more nutritious, mine only get feeders when the guppy/quarantine/hospital tank threatens to overpopulate.

I dont feed anything goldfish they are like iceburg lettuce in my opinion.

Once my freezer works again I am going to get talapia and shrimp, and I keep putting the shrimp pellets in for her, I wasnt worried about parasites with these fish she has been eating, seeing as they have been alive for quite a long time, even before I got the tank from my Gma.

My senegal eats floating cichlid pellets daily. It has never had live food. And when I try feeding shrimp it won't eat it. I think it's stuck on pellets. But my Ornant eats mainly shrimp

Try earthworms, they'll freak. I have yet to find a tropical carnivore OR omnivore that didn't love them. Great for training to handfeed.

Sinking Hikari gold and massivores daily. earthworms as a treat. They also like silversides-I had some I thought went bad(they stunk!) tossed them in with my 10.5" seng., 6" albino and 10" Palmas they all ate it like candy, total scavengers!

I have seen on 2 separate occasions where my Palmas caught and let go a goldfish feeder meant mainly as a treat for my oscars. Like he didn't really know what to do with it once he caught it! My Seng on the other hand *juggled* a feeder goldfish 3 times before getting it to go down head first.

Another item if you can find them is live sand shrimp. Tried one yesterday and the seng DEVOURED it whole! 2.5" shrimp...

Plus the nutrition in them is questionable.

1 massivore pellet is equvilent to 2 feeder goldfish

is that good or bad??

I heard Hikari had msg in it? I have good shrimp pellets.
My del has no problem catching and eating live fish, she has eaten all the platy in the tank lol

I'll look to see if it is listed when I get home. But all my food sinks so it is fair game to the bichirs.
