bichir from petmart - id anyone?

the redness in the tail is just its blood. kinda the same effect you get when you put your fingers over a flashlight.
 
I saw several senegals at Petsmart and all of them also had a red tinge to the tail, I would think that its normal and may go away once it is acclimated to your tank.

-OR- all of them could be sick, and may quickly infect your whole tank once acclimated. Always err on the side of caution and quarantine. The odds that Petsmart got a cool new breed of sengalis is slim to none.

Yep, my petsmart senegalus has no red or tint in its tail. He's been with me about 5 weeks I think. Taking a few culled guppy fry :)
