the bala sharks alone will get over 12" and need a 6 foot tank. I really wouldn't add anymore until you upgrade your tank.

That's alot of fish for a 55gal. Unless you have 500gph or more i would not add ANY fish....and bichirs generally wont mix with Plecs as they eat slime coats off of Polys

The question you posted would probably be limited to the Senegal Bichir, which is the easiest to get, as said. I got one from petsmart at like 3", and in about 3 months it grew to about 8"
