Hey hi I am a fellow bichir owner and I suggest you to put oxygen pump in the tank and please feed them some thing more than their diet to make them feel relaxed
The other fish would also be gulping if it was an 02 issue. my bichirs actively swim near the surface, if anything they'll do it more if they're relaxed

normal some polys are just active. Also suggest making sure your lid has no gaps for poly to escape from.

Looks similar behaviour when my old ornate jumped out the tank. Itll be normal behaviour though, but make sure you dont have a gap and put weights on the lid/cover.
Some of mine do this more than others, and some days they do it more than others.
Is this a new behavior? Have you checked your water parameters lately?
I second the secure lid thought, too. We've lost quite a few polys on this forum to jumping out of even small spots.

Secure the lid and make sure there are no gaps. Active polys that swim at the surface is normal behavior. Has nothing to do with oxygenation. These active polys are prone to jumping to their death if given the chance.
Its pretty normal, i would be more worried about the pbass and aro eating the poly.
