I don’t know anything about aros so I could be wrong, but it looks very thin in the picture to me anyway. Maybe it had internal parasites that you were unaware of. It may not have been anything you did wrong if it wasn’t showing any signs of a problem.

Im not sure but do arowanas sleep at the bottom or top of the tank? All my cichlids sink down to the bottom when sleeping. If arowanas do the same i have no doubts that birchir got him when he was sleepin.

The arowana might have had some problem,some internal parasite or due to some other reason would hav been struggling to swim and got settled down and bichir would have attacked it.As we know they are fragile at this size, it would hav resulted in aros death.

Plenty of my fish snooze down on the substrate never had a poly kill a tankmate. Right now i have a tiny 6 inch heterospilus and a jaguar cat even smaller and the 15 to 18 inch bichirs havent touched either.

If that ornate killed the aro there would be more damage. To me it looks like it jist started to nibble on the already dead fish

Ive never kept aro but isnt it a baf idea to keep them in bare tanks ? Something about them getting spooked and smashing themselves

S2pid, ornate won't attack your aro, if it is a endli he might try to eat your aro, but it's a freaking ornate. Your aro died because it's weak. I got 1 aro and 14 different bichir species in my 100gallon tank. Sadly my aro died too but it's not because of my bichirs.. though I let 'em eat the dead aro

Old thread but you are correct. Silver Arowana are fragile at that size doesn't take much to stress and kill them.
