San Jose,
hi guys, I was wondering are bichirs better off by themselves, or should they
be paired up?

I have a senegal in a 40 by himself, and raised him when he was only three inches. My wife says I should get him a mate but I'm not sure.

Thanks for any info.

there fine on there own but don't mind company if you have the space which it sounds like you do then get more of them

It doesn't really make a difference they are fine alone or in groups but I don't know how YOU can live with just one so i'd say get more :):):):):):):)

I'm going with the idea you have a senegal.adding another should be no big issue its really up to you.Personaly a cpl of senegals in a well decorated tank would be great with a cpl of African butterfly fish or Ctenopomas-Anne

I agree.. and an african knife too....

Thanks for all the info guys, really helpful. I'm right now upgrading tanks and equip. for the tank, so I probably will add another senegal.

I'd have a slight bit of caution because they can be territorial towards other Bichirs. Make sure you have some good cover if you don't already.
