Some of the max size here is no longer valid. Right now no one is certain if what;s the true max size of a wild bichir. There are many that are popping out that were bigger than previously thought.

For example polypterus senegalus senegalus was thought to max out at 12" but there are some in Turkana and Nigeria that grow bigger than 12". They grow at 16-21 inches. Most large specimen were caught at Turkana. Same with the Polypterus palmas beuttikoferi, they can get up to 20". Who knows what other bichirs out there that was thought to grow smaller than 15" but they actually grow bigger than that.

nonetheless its as good a guideline as I've found. And I'll believe in a 21" senegal once I see pics of it beside a ruler.

Same here, lol. Plus were talking tank conditions. We all know fish are very unlikey to get to that size unless super pristine conditions.

I've had my senegal for 3 years or so. She's 8" now and was 6" when I got her. I think she's done growing....... Why did I have to get a midget sen? lol

I got my Sen at 3" and he tripled in size in three months he's probly going to get to 10" and then stop...sadly that is called CB because the gene pool is smaller and they breed'em right after they get old enough you can get some pretty screwed up genes
