Sand or bare is really your personal choice I use fine ground gravel its a little bigger than sand.Avoid aquarium gravel I have heard of bichirs getting it stuck in their throats

:D thanks Anne ,i do have 3 botia macrantha 1x10cm and 2x5cm.nop ciclidios they get to big for this tank and i dont want to set the 150g whit monster´s :D not now at least :naughty:
