Bichir tankmate ideas

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
+1 Due to the different preferences in ph, I would not recommend Malawi barracudas. Odoe pike would be much better imo.
My PH is pretty consistent at around 7.8 which has always been good for my rift cichlids. I kept rifts for years but never a barracuda Are the Malawi barracuda different than other haps?

Yes after about 3 years the Peacock decided the tank was his. This was both single Cichlids so if more Cichlids and space it may work long term.

Forgot to mention the Firemouth got pushy with Senegal bichir after a couple of years but the Firemouth died shortly after.

I think some of it will be dependent on tank size and fish size, I have a 8 inch zebra pike with a 9-10 inch Endli in a 125g at the moment and they don’t really interact each other. The bigger the bichir the better, especially when they get thicker.

As for the Odoe, Steves exotic had one last week and I knew I should’ve jumped on it, gone pretty quick. But I was looking for one for awhile and that was the first I’ve seen pop up, hopefully a few more will be coming shortly .

I did some more research and talked to some others and decided to go with the M. Barracuda. I’m pretty confident that it will work out well. I don’t mess with my PH at all and my polys and my previous haps have all been healthy and from everything I’ve read , the cuda is an extremely peaceful Hap. Thanks for the suggestions, the odeo pike sounded cool, but I liked the cuda more.I’ll post some pics after I get it.
