bichir with a betta?

I would say don't do it ! Bettas are like gourmet snacks for fish like these,

I too also had a nice Betta and bought a much smaller Bichir at close to 2" and at first there was no problem then after a couple of months the bichir started attacking the Betta's fins. Bettas maybe inexpensive but since each creature is an individual in its own right with different personality the question is do you want to take the risk. I have a dwarf Gourami with my Betta they sometimes fight but do not hurt each other. I have several other small fish and the only fish the Bichir was interested in was the Betta eventhough it had more opportunities to catch and eat the smaller fish I had in there at the time.

my young bichirs always had expensive tastes while growing in the 20 gal, glass cats, angels, kuhli loaches, guppies, they never ceased to amaze me with what they could actually kill and or eat when they were tiny
