*taking notes at all females. got it.*

Lmaooo im not saying all males wouldnt work either lol just for me mixing sa/ca has always been very difficult lol

My friend give me a nigerian lap before cause his jack dempsey beat the crap on the bichir. So it really depends on the cichlids aggression. Poly cannot defend them self so just watch how it goes if you end up buying some poly.

Polys can and will defend themself my dempsey had a freddy krueger mark up one side of his face where my sen hit him with the finlets on his tail lil buggers are like razors. If teh fight had kept on dempsey would have won no doubt but he was far from unscathed

My polys are scared of any thing that will bite them, they even scared with their own kind.

lol I think thats the bare tank syndrome with no hides or places to feel cozy most fish get scared IMHO. Give them more hides and territory to claim and watch them grow balls bigger then a an elephant

LMAO:D once i do that they will become more territorial and start beating each other up. But thats a good suggestion if you have a mean cichlids, give a poly some hideout were it can retreat and will feel safe.

I personally have never been a fan of bare bottom tanks, although I've seen some great tile tanks. I'd definitely want to give the poly some where to hide at least. But then again.... Maybe I'd just never see him then lol

Poly's tank has a substrate just very little decor. to each thier own, a lot of the poly keepers have thier tanks that way it is just not my style. I like my tanks to have a natural feel as much as I can stone, sand ,live plants, and driftwood. The only plastic in my decor is pvc tubes under the rocks to prevent cave ins and pinning.

There are benefits in both styles I guarentee polys tank is way cleaner than mine as there are no hidden pockets of crap behind stonework or that have worked thier way under the wood. He also gets to see his polys anytime he wants. I find mine way more asteticly pleasing, my fish get to hide and feel safe, and if there is bullying they have plenty of places to get away and break line of site to lower aggression.

I do feel good decor is a neccesary thing for bichirs with cichlids so that if they are harrassed they can get away.

edit:
If it is sens you will see them no worrys

I used to have mazanita DW, i used to have 3 and now down to 1, they always knockdown the wood and i dont like huge wood since they always hide behind it. Plus growing LJ with some hidding spot, i get scared that they might get stuck. I like how Binge Binge tank is setup, i dont mind doing that with UJ, like he mentioned sen and some UJ like delhezi and palmas polli like to swim around, most LJ become logs when when the become large size, one of the reason i like to keep one decor.

I feel similarly. I want to see my fish but I like a natural looking tank. I am trying to strike a balance between the two. After I got my polys I ripped a bunch of plants out - there are less but still quite a lot. Still working on it.

Might go less rooted plants when I upgrade but will always have plants and DW in my tanks.

I also have been trying to avoid
polys that tend to hide more for that reason, also.
