Bichir with cichlids?

has anyone kept a bichir with cichlids before? does it work in the long run, will the cichlids ignore them or see them as competition?
 
I kept a large endli with a 10" jag and it worked out. The jag would constantly try to pick on the endli whenever it went in its territory but the endli was so big, it didn't really care. The jag was more of an annoyance to him and there were no problems at all at feeding time.

lol besides competition, my oscar assumed my bichir as a worm. but if u have enough space they would surely be fine together. but just make sure tht the cichlids are not to big for them to eat your bichir or the bichir is not big enough to eat your cichlids. hahah

pretty much this.
i had a delhezi with frontosas that were smaller than him, and he ate them all.
on the other hand, i have fronts in with him now that are way too big to eat, so he doesn't bother them, and will be moved if he gets to the point where it could turn. they're definitely outgrowing him though.
 
Had a Senegal and green sev for 3 years they were together since they were both 2.5" maybe, all was fine. Had to separate due to bloat issues in Senegal. When I tried to reintroduce the sev would not stop nipping. Senegal removed ever since.

sounds good, my senegal is about 3-4 inches samse size as the rest of my cichlids. What would you say theyre growth rate is compared to lets say a jag
 
Ive had bichirs with asst. africans (i assume they were labs) , heckelli arcaras, gymno balzani, currently a lil cichla orino. Never had an issue w/ them and the bichirs or ropefish, i wouldnt worry about it. Maybe a red devil would kill it anyway but.. those are rds haha stay away from the ultra aggressive

i have a 7" weeksii and a 5" stripe raphael with my 11"-12" male dovii in a 180g. all is fine. i dont think the dovii would see them as a competition, at least so far...

With a Dovii? That's some risky business. I wouldn't even try to put my Senegal with my Dovii
