bichir with oscars?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
that stock look ok? its gots a good variety and enough bichirs to supplement my wants and needs :p along with my fave

ok. i might just do the oscars in the tank. maybe 3 oscars instead of 2 and a dempsey.

i mean just oscars and the bichir

ya wana give it plenty of small hideaways maybe a pvc pipe that the oscar cant get into so he doesnt get eaten like a big worm

just wondering here but is there anyway that the birchir could eat the oscar, like if my birchir was about 6-7" and the oscar was about 2-3"

might be possible if you bought the bichir i just saw and a small oscar. but usually you can get a good sized oscar at most lfs to where there wouldnt be that paricular problem. at my other lfs, there was a 1 foot ornate bichir for sale. quite nice and big. i think he could eat a small oscar mistaking it for a feeder. but i doubt a nice medium sized petsmart oscar would pose a problem to this.

my stock list is
2 oscars
1 ornate bichir
2 senegal bichir
2 banded bichir

hi i just got a shortfin bichir and my albino oscar likes to nip it on the side im hoping that it wont cause any damage as the bichir cost me £22.50 so do you think that they can live together long term, also the oscar is about 5 inches and the bichir measures about 6 1/2 inches. :nilly:

Problem is growth rates. Oscars grow fast, bichers do too, but only until they're about 6 inches. If you get both at three inches, the oscar's gonna grow big enough and fast enough to wonder whether the bicher is edible. If you get a bicher at 6" when the oscar is only 3", that probability diminishes, but the possibility of the bicher taking it for a deathroll increases, although as long as the bicher is well fed(and isn't an endli), that possibility decreases too. So I would probably start with larger bichers than oscars and just make sure the bichers were fat and happy.
