Bichir with west African lungfish yes or no

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
big no!

See the lungfish forum here on MFK. Short answer, NO!

People here is so stubborn and "certain" all the time.If anyone here should see my tank or some of the tanks on the swedish forum rovfisk.se they should pass out.Try one with tankmates from small size and it could work maybe.Either you win or you lose, but you cant know until you try it..

I know ppl with dolloi and tankmates like bichirs and gars,A member on rovfisk has a marbled with tankmates without any probs and i know of atleast 2-3 anns in tanks with tankmates.

No hard feelings towards anyone here.BUT on this forum ppl tends to listen too much to self named experts when it comes to certain fishies temper and stuff..

its not that people here are self named experts, the majority of the time when people here advise against something it's because they have either made the same mistake or watched others do so. the instances of it are not the rule but rather the exception

I kept my current African with my silver aro when they were both 6". I had a large honeycomb pleco in with them. It was a 6' 150 gallon tank. For a year all was good then when he hit 10" or so he started stalking the pleco and eventually stressed the pleco out till I had to move the pleco. The aro was fast and stayed at the surface and was just as big but after watching what happened with the pleco I moved the aro to a 300 gallon when they were around 12"-15". Since then the lungfish has turned psycho and bites at you through the glass when you walk by. It does work when they are young but don't be shocked if one day chunks of tank mates are missing!

My response of mixing african lungs with anything else in the monster category is a big 'NO'. I've tried introducing WALs to large fish comms and introducing fish to a WAL's tank with equal results. ...eventually, the WAL went berzerk (usually late winter/early spring) and killed everything else in the tank. The only moderate success I've had with mixing anything with a WAL has been in placing fish so small that they're not normally considered as worthwhile to be on the WALs menu. I kept a large colony of Endler's livebearers with a P. aethiopicus in a 250gal. I rarely lost a little guy to the WAL. Anything the size of a swordtail or larger was considered to be a snack for the LF.
