lol i've seen the crazy combos. I doubt they will survive in the long term.

Easy to say,BUT i kow for a fact that most of them have been with tankmates for years. If the combo will work or not depends on the individual fish of course. But to say certain no is wrong..

It´s like the wolf-treads i know for a fact that mala´s can work with tankmates like large aggressive fish and bichirs,I have one now and 2 morde before and all were over 30cm,never had and issue besides once, but when you read here in treads about mala´s and tankmates ppl tends to say now without even knowing what the h.ll they´r talking about.I could tell them about like at least 12-15 big wolfs with tankmates in sweden alone who lives in peace with their t-mates.Mine even thinks he is a bichir btw ha ha.

Why bother taking the risk in hopes that it might work when the odds are stacked against you?

Why not?=).Life´s a gamble ha ha.But i agree that it can go wrong and that would be bad. But,it can also work out fine if you keep a protopterus from juvenile with other fish.I´ve said it before and i´m saying it again: it depends on the fish, its idividual and if you have a big enough tank why not try it if you want a protopterus with mates. And of course you don´t put expensive fish or fish u are emotional attached to with it before you "know" the fish.

I´ve seen the rests of a big dolloi who got it´s ass whooped by an big jag (like 45cm) and the rests of a ann who got killed by an snakehead half it´s own size.So if you choose aggressive enough tankmates who knows...
