I was looking at a bichir at petsmart and it was really cool looking, I was wondering if there is any common bichirs out there that could live in a 55 for either life or a year or so? I have cichlids in there now, but the tank will be upgraded sometime next year. I think the one I was looking at was a dinosaur bichir and I wasnt going to take any advice from the people at petsmart.

Hey just because we work at PETSMART doesn't mean we're not reliable sources of info and even if the associate you speak to isn't extremely knowledgable we have care sheets with basic info on most animals and fish we carry.

I've been annoyed by the tags for them being labeled Dinosaur Bichir Polypterus bichir for a while, It's actually a Polypterus senegalus with the common name of Gray Bichir or Senagal Bichir. The Senegal Bichir is the most common Polyepterus available and as far as I'm concerned it will be fine for the rest of it's natural or not so natural life in your 55 gallon.

didnt mean to offend anyone sorry about that, i want to work at a petshop because i know alot both reptiles and fish and am willing to work all the time, so a petshop would love to have me, but im not 16 yet. but the petsmart employees by me just got out of highschool and you can tell they couldnt care less about the fish. but how much does your petsmart sell the senagals for?

what do they eat? if i get one can i grow it out in my 20 gallon with two goldfish and two cories? can it be kept with cichlids also when its bigger?

If I remember correctly cost 6.99 and usually they're around 2"-3" in size.

Trust me, some of our stores have the cream of the crop when it comes to poor employees but they tend not to last long, the ones that really care about animals are the ones that stay for the most part.

how old do you have to be to work at petsmart? im 15 now but will be 16 in may and am going to get a job when i get my license (when im 16) and i really want to work at a petshop.

Geeze.. I'm a manager and I forgot.. I think it's 16 with a form signed by your school and parents but I also think minimum age depends on where you live.

yea i have a good g.p.a and my dad wants me to get a job so getting both wouldnt be a problem, our school has work permits that we have to get so i think thats what your talking about. thanks
