Bichirs and Spiny Eels

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
fine i have my eels with my bichirs and thers no problem

what kind of worms do you feed them? where do you buy your worms. was thinking of hitting up a baitshop or growing my own.

I buy from the bait shop, I always make sure to rinse them off for at least 30 seconds in cold water before i put them in the tank to make sure they're not only mostly slimeless, but, they've "pooped" out all the defense goo they tend to shoot. I've seen them shoot it in the tank, sick.
I've also gone out when it's raining and collected them off the lawn and driveway. (if anyone asks and you're embarassed....you're a devout fisherman.

Two different tanks, different fish, no problems. As long as one won't fit in the others mouth it should be fine.

I was gonna ask the same question when I saw your thread so thanks!
My Birchirs and Pleco get along fine. Sometimes the pleco will push them out of his cave. Just a big regular Pleco.
Might have to get a fire or tire track eel now !

Becareful of putting pleco and bichir together. There is chance that the pleco will suck on the bichir's skin. I once kept a 6" pleco with my 10" ornate for quite sometime. But one day i found the body of the ornate all bleeding with the skin gone. And saw the pleco kept trying to suck on the ornate. The pleco left the tank right away.

Yikes!! Thats good to know. I had a pleco do that to my Discus before....

has anyone ever seen a live bichir with the wounds from the pleco though? Could he be like the innocent guy who happened to be at the murder scene, cause plecos will pick at anything once its dead. I've had my pleco as long as my bichirs and he's never really sucked on them, he'll get pushy when they steal food right outta his mouth but I've never seen him suck on them. PLus don't bichirs have ganoid scales which are exceptionally tough compared to other fish?
