Bichirs in Cichlid tanks. . .

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
With african cichlids i don't know what happens! but mine are with south american, and they bit in one another sometimes!!

The small Ornate I have in a 100 gallon w/ some pretty rowdy medium-sized american cichlids (see sig) is doing very well ...even tho he's quite adventurous & swims about alot, even in 'daytime'. But I think the only reason I got away w/ it is because the big JD is not accustomed to live food. But the Synspillum did try to take a chunk out of him.....evidently those 'dorsal' spines don't taste very good. There are plenty of hiding spaces, tho.

probably not a good idea.....polypterus are slow moving will have a hard time competing for food. possibly be victims of agression............

I have always kept polypterus with comparatably sized cichlids(meaning no one fits into anyone else's mouth)- mostly S/C american. In general the only issue is when they are smaller you need to be sure they get food.

I had my first ornate for 10 years, with cichlids such as green terrors, blood parrots, severums, etc.
