Bichirs with wolf fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My bichirs are all well fed :) so in your opinion, is it a good idea to put the wolf fish in if I really needed to? They all eat the same food and wolf fish has been with bichirs in the past. I bought from Hao and he kept them with bichirs so he's used to bichirs as tank mates :D

I would try to keep a tank up to keep him in because he will get more good and won't be in fear of being eaten, but if you for some reason couldn't keep another tank up and had to keep it in the bigger tank I would keep the bloggers guys well fed. I wouldn't recommend it though because there is still no garantee he won't get eaten.

Thanks for your response Dr. B :)
Ok, so he's in a 15g right now and I honestly have no choice but to take down the tank. Would it be ok to raise him in a 5g tank? Up until he gets about 6-7"? Will it be ok to put him in a 5g for about one week? Two weeks maximum. Thanks! :)

I'm not familiar wit the specific species of wolf fish you are talking about so I can't say with confidence a yes or no, but after the 5g what size tank would you put him in? I would say depending on the dimensions you could, but I'm not an expert on wolf fish

After the 5g, he would be going into the 180g with the big bichirs. White tip wolf fish get to a maximum, I heard, 9 inches

I'm not sure how fast they grow but I would try and find something bigger than a 5g for a longer term grow out. I wouldn't really feel confident about putting a fish that size in there until 7"-9" and even then I may have some doubts, but then again I am not wolffish expert I am just speaking of what I would do.

Ok thanks Dr. There is also a 7" albino Senegal as thick as the wolf fish in the 180g and has no problems with aggression :)

If they aren't hoeing anything thing to that sen (aggression/trying to eat it) then you may have a better chance but I still think you might need to grow it out a couple more inches just to be safe. If you can't and have to put it on the big tank that doesn't necessarily mean instant death but there will always be that lingering chance of it being eaten. Whatever you choose to do I wish you luck and that no one is eaten or harmed lol

I never had any aggression with the 7" albino Senegal. It was never chased, nipped, or someone tried to eat him :) I might do JamesF idea and put a divider inside the tank :)

I would not recommend to put that small a wolf with the bigger LJ bichirs. If you can then divide the tank and give the wolf lots of room and food so he can grow. Once he is bigger it should work great.
