I haven't used Dr. Foster and Smiths, but I use Big Als pretty regularly. I was shocked, to say the least, when I ordered something from them one evening about 5 pm and it was on my door step at 11 am the next morning. This was using normal shipping methods. I commented to my husband that they must have had psychics working there and had shipped it days before I had actually ordered it. I have never had any problems with them and the points are a great bonus.

I like that BigAls has their own brand of things that are cheaper than name brands yet retaining decent quality. I hate how unorganized their site is, why do they list the same heater 5 times with different wattages? They can learn a few things from the DrsFosterSmith site setup.
I like that DrsFosterSmith has a lot of pond supplies. You can buy koi food in bulk for very cheap. They seem to work great for my goldfish and my JDs like them too. They already have a large selection but I would like to see them have some things that BigAls has.
I think it really depends on the product for prices, neither is generally cheaper.

I have used DFS for over 10 years. Their service is excellent, as well as their prices. They once messed up an order of mine, like every place will do at one time or another, but they gave me free shipping on my next order out of the deal. I also like DFS magazine. Big Al's is a pain because they have a little magazine, and you have to flip through a stupid price list. I will always be faithful to DFS.
They both have perks, and disadvantages. Being closer to wisconsin, DFS is where I go. They do seem to compete pricewise as well, plus, print the add, and petsmart matches

Is it just me, or has Big Al's had the same catalog for like two years? There are products in there that are discontinued and a lot of what is on the website isn't in the catalog. Having the price guide separate sucks. Why can't they update their catalog every now and then and put the prices next to the products?
