Big bass pond

Plants, plants, and more plants...

Filteration is not an issue. At that volume you really only need areation and plants. Areation can be a couple of fountains or air diffusers. The waterfall feed by a skimmer will use getted clogged and need constant attention, but will look really sweet. The air diffussers are a 1/3 -2/3 hp and have self-weighted air hose. You could run a handfull of these throughout the pond. A compressor is used to operate them and is good up to 20' depth.

can't wait to see this pond built please post pics of the progress from start to finish and good luck

Hi, new here.
We have two large irrigation ponds with fish (and one ornamental pond)
at the edge of my property and on my neighbors.
Both the farm ponds are larger than yours. Neither have filtering. The large
one held 5lb trout for years. Now it is catfish and various native junk with
fins. Some of those cats are big now :)

The other is strictly bass. There was a third one that was about your size
with Small Mouth.

The two smaller ponds just have native plants, grasses and bushes that
grow out of the margins and the grasses that are submerged. They all
just appeared. They have no real water flow.

The ponds become their own ecosystem and it happens pretty fast.
The fish seem to thrive.

Although they do not require filtration (unless you are into breeding fish commercially) they can benefit from areation to combat algae blooms. At least here (Portland Oregon) in the summer. The big pond has an irrigation pump (300g/minute) and part of that is routed back to the pond through a nozzle made from cutting a slit in PVC pipe. That makes a nice spray. Your waterfall should do the same kind of thing. If you find you need more then you could add a fountain.

If you arent interested to help, or have something constructive to say...please dont bother saying anything at all. He asked for help...not some ***hole mocking and leaving bull**** posts in a thread. Mods, please tell me if Im wrong in saying this and excuse the language but its a tad bit uncalled for.

As for turning over water in a pond this size...its not so much about turning over the water as it is helping nature out a little bit.
Reverse, the biggest non banned troll on MFK has struck again. He's always been a douche to everyone.

And to the poster, this pond will be very self sufficient as long as you give it a lot of plants etc. If anything, as long as its not overstocked, the amount of water in here will be enough to have a ton of dillution as far as waste goes. This will be a major undertaking and I wish you a lot of luck.
