Macaus, Cockatoos and Parrots , anybody has any experience keeping them ?
Share them here ! I am very interested in these colorful, smart and charming birds :)

I love my bird! She's not huge but I'm actually thankful for that because her attitude is mega-monster. Nothing cooler than having a winged pitbull that hates everyone except me.

Ha Ha no joke. They all think they are ten feet tall.

Hey, Bro I would probably go with a small species if you have any kids. Most birds do not like kids. They move to fast for them.

Cokatoos are really cool large birds but there eyes do not pin, so it is harder to tell there mood. Conures are tough guys as well as lories(they can be clowns though like mine). My lorie has a handful of close friends that she loves but if she does not like you she will attack. She sees my girlfriend as a rival and will fend her off! Driving her off the bed, coach or out of the room if she is really feeling tough. Stay away from Amazons as a family bird they typically bond with one person. Macaws also bond with one person only typically not always.

If you want a bird with huge personality but can inflict little damage look into a parotlet. They are great! If you have never had any birds you may just want to find a cockatiel they are great and will let you know really quickly if you can handle a larger bird.

No matter what bird you select, look for one that is hand fed, this makes a world of difference.

My girlfriend had a macaw that was a big time lover. He loved anybody that wanted to hold him. He just loved to be the center of attention. I would say macaws are probably the best of the big birds if you want to have a chance of it bonding with more than one person. Personally if I ever get a bird a conure is on the top of my list....then ringneck parokeet! Love those birds!

the best multi person birds are the smaller ones like the parakeets and 'teils. most bigger birds tend to bond to just one person forever. also birds raised by their parents but socialized and totally used to humans tend to bond with multiple people better, because they do not have a sexual imprint on humans so aren't as obsessive with one person.

but if that's not an an issue, I personally love electus parrots, but that's just me.

We have a Sulphur-crested Cockatoo, Long Billed Corella and an alexandrine

The male Cockatoo gets very noisy as he is a naughty 5 year old bird. the noises that he makes goes thru everything, if you have neighbors, they will hate you forever.

The long bill - She is an amazing bird. She is very much a peoples bird but she does have her moments.

Alex - I would suggest a bird like this, don't get a ring neck, get an alex! they have wonderful personalities!

Loris are messy, I have hand raised over 100 of the little buggers and I am not a huge fan, they squirt when they poop and their nails and beak have death grips! they hurt!

Conures are noisy little things too! (mind you it's about 2 months old! LOL)
