sucks but looks like it got much fatter than it was at the LFS,be proud that you tried to save it and fatten it up and gave it a better home than the LFS did
I live in Dominican Republic. I'll have to order this fish from Jakarta, Indonesia at the time one of the LFS makes an order since this is the only avenue I have to get the species I'm looking for and not just another look-alike (like the place where I purchased my first two endlis... these were labeled as lapradei).
Look at both while in the small tank (last week).
I don't want the surviving endli to kill newcommer(s). Since he/she (I belive it's another female but can not say for sure yet) is already 8 inches long, what would be the minimum size I should try to get the new ones that would be safe to place in the tank?
I'm in love with Polypterus.
I want to move ahead and get prepared for breeding them, waiting six or seven years for that to happen is no problem, I'm 45 years old so it's been a while since I enjoy being patient.
I figure I would need at least 5 more individuals to have a good chance of pairing-off to occur. I don't mind what I end up paying. These creatures are priceless to me.
At that size their girth is still pretty small, you can add ones that are a good bit smaller. the only time I have had a problem, personally, is when I am trying to add endlis that are small to those that are 10"+ with alot more girth.
