Are you sure he's not a hybrid maybe with texas? Looks little strange for a jd and the beard, still very nice tho!

No one can ever be sure that a cichlid is not a hybrid, even if caught from the wild by oneself - someone could have released a cichlid into the place and it may then be caught. Or, even though it is uncommon in the wild, hybridization does occur naturally, and so one can't know for sure.

But I digress. :P

Fact is it doesn't look like a hybrid. :P

My old JD/texas looks similar to that one.. Better than regular JDs in my opinion,

I admit, I don't own a Jack Dempsey, nor do I care that much for them. Nonetheless, when I think of Galaxies, this is what I'd envision them to look like, based on the Galaxies that I have seen of (okay, so only in pictures, but still) which doesn't look like what OP has here. It is true that hybrids can vary greatly, and Galaxies do have varied patterns depending on whether a Texas or a Green Texas (and which variety in particular) is used, but well... I don't see it in OP's fish.

Seen and owned a lot of dempseys. Honestly my first thought was texasXDempsey. But regardless he is a stud. Great fish.

Great looking JD!! There's a lot to be said about the coloration of the natural variations.
